Nottoway County, Virginia
U.S. Bridge was selected to provide this all-galvanized, three span steel truss bridge for Nottoway County, Virginia. The original structure which dates back to 1953 was closed in May 2003 after a flash flood. An inspection determined that the old, one lane bridge, which had a seen ton weight limit, was in need of repairs due to flood damage, deterioration and other signs of age. Since Fort Pickett and the town of Blackstone both use the Nottoway reservoir, VDOT made contact with the officials during the design stages of the bridge replacement project. The ultimate design was a triple span steel truss bridge. It's unique because everything is galvanized, including the piles and the pier caps. The project was completed 84 days ahead of schedule an on budget. In addition, a 35 year warranty against corrosion was provided at no additional cost to the owner.
