Great Smoky Mountains National Park, NC
U.S. Bridge worked closely with FHWA Eastern Federal Lands Office to design this structure located near Cherokee N.C. in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. It is two miles up stream from a trout hatchery and replaced a low water crossing. The clear span was necessary to accomodate water flows during heavy rains and the desire to reduce stream contamination during construction by eliminating piers in the waterway. The bridge was fabricated from self-weathering steel. After installation, treated timber flooring was installed. Nestled in the woods, this bridge blends beautifully with the surroundings.
